I bought one reluctantly as I had nothing else to use.īut wow! This mid-tone neutral taupe goes on easily, doesn’t crease, and stays all day! Not cheap but for me, a winner! I now have one in my makeup bag and one on my dressing table. I hunted for replacements everywhere until one sympathetic Clinique sales associate referred me to MAC, where I was encouraged to buy a Paint Pot in Groundwork. My last two (one in my makeup bag, one on my dressing table) dried out and broke into pieces the first time I put makeup on after covid restrictions were lifted. Unfortunately Clinique no longer make them, which I only discovered after not wearing makeup for two years during the pandemic. You can lighten or darken the shade by how much you apply. It lasts all day and is a nice neutral shade that adds a veil of colour.
MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot or Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. The Chubby Stick is like a pen that you just swipe over your lids and blend with your fingers (or a brush/sponge). Cream-based can be mixed with MAC shadows and liners. I am very clumsy at applying any makeup so I need something quick and easy.Ī number of years ago I discovered Clinique Chubby Sticks in Lots o’ Latte. Primer doesn’t help at all so powder shadow ends up patchy and creased. I have small hazel eyes, am very pale, my eyelids are oily, and I am left-handed. I shudder at the memory my three-shades-of-metallic blue Miners eyeshadow in the 70s (paired with spidery Rimmel cake mascara) when I was off to the school disco (eek!) in my psychedelic flares and wooden platforms. The finish is on point and it has a very subtle sheen to it the same as Groundwork.I have always been terrible at applying makeup. I’d say the Colour Tattoo is slightly more sticky (that’s definitely not the right word but it feels a bit heavier). I saw the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in the shade Creamy Beige while I was in Canada and I had a feeling it could be a dupe! On the first inspection, I thought the formula would be way too opaque, but it’s almost exactly the same when blended. The formula is slightly sheer but can be built up and I love everything about it-it’s very ‘I woke up like dis’. I use my ring finger to sweep a bit over my lids and it instantly looks like I’ve ‘made an effort’ as it creates a natural shadow in the crease. I LOVE Bad to the Bronze, but Groundwork is perfect for lazy days and occasions that call for toned down makeup. I feel like it’s a more sophisticated version of the Maybelline Bad to the Bronze which has quite a bit of shimmer in it.
Of course, a neutral base like this is perfect underneath shadows because it prolongs the wear time and helps the shadows stand out more, but I love them on their own too! As you can see, my MAC Paint Pot in the shade Groundwork is very well loved. One of my go-to products is a neutral cream eyeshadow base because it’s a quick way to add some depth and definition to the eyes.
